Bus Rapid Transit Update - March 2022

Below are the results from last week's presentation to the Transit Committee on what the bus shelter construction roll-out will look like. This project is full-steam ahead with funding received through grants.

The only piece still requiring funding, and likely the most expensive for Ajax, is the portion through Pickering Village. If this portion of the development does receive the funding, the project will not likely start before 2026.

Once the construction has been completed between Westney and Alexander Crossing, the impact to traffic should be low and the completed construction should make the bus lanes safer for cars.

If the Pickering Village section receives the necessary funding, there will be significant impact to traffic both during construction and after, in my opinion.

Timelines for the Constructions

1. Harwood to Galea - in design - going out to tender late 2022
2. Galea to Alexander Crossing - construction 2024
3. Westney to Harwood - Design RFP out - with construction 2025
4. Pickering Village - has not yet received funding

Bus Rapid Transit ("BRT") team will be looking for public input from March 7 - 25th.
