Pandemic to Endemic: Pandemic is Over...Maybe it is?

With the recent announcements from the Province of Ontario it would lead you to believe that the pandemic is over. We are no longer tracking positive cases, the vaccination clinics closing due to lack of traffic, and now the lifting of the mask mandate for the entire province. Maybe it is over?

Premier Ford has rescinded the permissions for local medical officers to create public health orders above and beyond that of the provincial orders by removing the "Section 22" abilities. This would, in effect, remove the ability for a local medical officer to enact or keep the masking requirement in place beyond the province's timelines, or any other public health restrictions local to their region. Maybe it is over?

Please understand, I sincerely hope that the pandemic is over. That we have now moved into an endemic mode and COVID-19 has become something we just have to live with. The businesses that have had to deal with repeated shut downs and/or restrictions, need time to build what they have lost over the past two years. It is time that we figure out what the new normal looks like I sincerely hope that the pandemic is over and that removing "Section 22" abilities is not due to a provincial election.

For me, it's going to take some time before I buy tickets to a concert, baseball game or anywhere a large crowd is gathering. I think it will be a while before I grocery shop without a mask. In fact, I still follow the arrows in the grocery store to this day.

There will be some that will pivot very quickly to this new found freedom, and I get it, it's been a long 2 years... no judgment here. Please be patient with those of us who can't pivot that quickly, and with business that choose to remain cautious. Two years of restrictions is a long time and it may take some of us a little longer to adjust.

Let's hope it's over....
