March 2020 Durham Region Transit Updates
Here is an update on developments and improvements to the Durham Region Transit system.
☑ Proposed increase of $0.05 to Presto and ticket rides, $0.25 to cash rides, first increase to cash rides since 2016.
☑ 8 electric buses will be added to the fleet.
☑ 11 hybrid buses - stationed at the Ajax bus depot and will travel both local and regional roads.
☑ Articulated buses will be delivered to the Region in the spring, training will proceed through the summer and fully on the road in September. Making 44 stops on Hwy 2 from Pickering to Oshawa.
☑ First ever Autonomous/Electric Shuttle in Whitby as a one year pilot, it will be manned for customer service and to take control if needed.
☑ Improving incentives: continuation of fare incentives making it easier to ride DRT, including kids ride free and the removal of the 'with a fare paying passenger' stipulation, youth (ages 13-19) monthly 2-for-1 passes for July and August, Y10 youth pass, and the Transit Assistance Program (TAP) pilot for persons receiving social assistance in Durham.
